| "We believe surviving spouses and dependent children need an organization dedicated solely to their needs, concerns, and welfare.” |
On 18 December 1945 Gold Star Wives of America incorporated as a Membership Corporation in the state of New York with the assistance of First Lady, Eleanor Roosevelt, who served on the first Board of Directors. The New York Non-Profit Revitalization Act of 2013 brought about review and change. The focus of the Legal Compliance Committee is to implement New York Non-Profit law throughout the organization and to meet the state’s annual reporting requirements. This committee’s work focuses on achieving Best Practices for improved governance and legal oversight. | NAVIGATE
